It
was traditional for a family member already engaged in an artisanal
profession to pass his knowledge on to a younger member. Learning
is informal .It is commenced by observation and the assignment
of simple tasks, that in time increased in difficulty and degree
of responsibility.
After
a number of years, training ended when the apprentice proved himself
capable of satisfactorily executing work of an expected standard.
When the relationship is of father and son, the latter eventually
inherited his father's capital and credit as his patrimony.
